Lydia Douglas CPM, LDM
Hi there! I am Lydia Douglas, a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) and Licensed Direct-Entry Midwife (LDM) new to the Eugene area! I offer home births in the Eugene, Springfield, Coburg, Cottage Grove, Dexter, Lowel and surrounding areas.
I provide safe, compassionate and inclusive prenatal care to birthing people, with a focus on informed consent. I offer low intervention birth, and hope that my clients are comfortable making their own decisions regarding their care and birthing choices. I want to support you in having the birth and prenatal care that you desire.
I offer water birth, breastfeeding support, well baby care, well person care (including your 6 week pap), placenta encapsulation services, and can refer to other providers in the area as necessary.
I started working with MidValley Birthing services in December of 2020, as well as became an OHP provider and am now able to bill OHP for out of hospital births.
What is Midwifery Care Like?
At each prenatal appointment, we will spend an hour together in the comfort of your own home. I take vitals, listen to your baby's heart rate with either a doppler or fetoscope. I can order routine labs and ultrasounds as well. I encourage other children and family members to be involved and participate during your care.
If you choose to have me as your midwife, in addition to routine prenatal care, someone on our midwife team is available for you to call or text with any emergencies or questions 24/7.
Proud to be practicing with MidValley Birthing Services
MidValley Birthing Services is a group of midwives and students that serve the MidValley Region of Oregon. Every client has a “primary” midwife. This midwife will be your main point of contact throughout your pregnancy. They will oversee all of your labs, ultrasounds and any concerns or complaints you may have throughout pregnancy. They will work with you up until your third trimester, at that point, you will start to meet all the other midwives. Having a group practice allows adequate time off-call to rest and re energize. We feel that this is a vital key to sustainable midwifery. Being on-call for every client, 24/7 is not something we feel is doable long term for our midwives. We want each midwife at your birth to be well rested and able to focus and provide the safest care possible. This is why we have every client meet every midwife in their prenatal care. It is not guaranteed that your “primary” midwife will be present at your birth, but our practice is small enough, that it is still likely that she will be.
We are passionate about providing safe, respectful, client-centered care for families who desire a home birth. We attend home births in Albany, Corvallis, Lebanon, Sweet Home, Scio, Brownsville, Halsey, Salem, Monroe, Eugene, Springfield and surrounding areas. We are able to bill many types of insurance, including OHP.
A Little About Me
My midwifery journey began in 2012 after the birth of my first son. I had a somewhat traumatic hospital birth that led me to research alternative birth options and eventually about midwifery. During my research I strongly felt called to midwifery. I reached out to a local freestanding birth center and started my apprenticeship in 2013.
After apprenticing for about a year, I took a break from births to have 2 more babies (both born safely and quickly at home). This break was a great time to continue my self study. After a nearly 4 year break from births, I started an apprenticeship in Grants Pass OR where I spent two more years attending births and continuing my studies.
I earned my Certified Professional Midwife certification through the North American Registry of Midwives in May of 2020 and became a Licensed Direct Entry Midwife in the state of Oregon in June of 2020. I am passionate about providing true informed consent to birthing people and their families. I believe that birth is a normal and natural process and the birthing person is in charge of their care. Midwifery is my passion and I am so thankful that families trust me to be involved in such an intimate part of their lives.
When I’m not busy catching babies, I love spending time with my family. I have a husband and three wild sons. We love to make and eat charcuterie boards, get outside as often as possible, and camp all summer long!
